NEARING 50. CATCHING 20.
the story of catch20too?!
Jon Thompson,
Founder & Practitioner of Catch20Too?!
Could you catch your 20 year old self?
The world around you certainly wants to convince you that you can’t and shouldn’t even consider getting physically better much after turning 40. You are, as the mantra goes, “over the hill,” with steeper declines to come as you accumulate years. That’s where my fascination starts—with the accumulation of what over the years?
Is it the accumulation of the same mistakes and destructive patterns due to the misunderstanding of what our bodies are and how they function? Breaking the same rules for proper care and maintenance of our bodies that the rest of society has been doing for generations?
But what if that wasn’t what we were accumulating? What if we were figuring out how our bodies are designed to function and started doing things the proper way instead? What if we started accumulating little victories every day? Could those add up enough to get someplace physically exciting? Could we perhaps even find a place better than when we would have considered ourselves at our “peak”?
The truth is, I don’t know! But what I do know is that there are plenty of things that I was doing when in my 20’s that were causing me to go the wrong direction—be it physically, mentally, or emotionally. I didn’t really understand the rules of the game that I was playing, so it was difficult to win. I had many traumas and injuries that I wasn’t addressing because I wasn’t aware of how or what could be done.
Is it too late to learn and apply wisdom to make lasting change and turn the ship around? And if you can go in the right direction, how far and how fast can you go? If, like me, you are curious (and perhaps delusional enough) to find out, then welcome to Catch20Too?!
